British riders Helen Wyman (Kona) and Nikki Harris (Telenet-Fidea) placed second and third behind Belgian Sanne Cant (Enertherm-BKCP) in the Superprestige Gavere cyclo-cross race in Belgium on Sunday.
Wyman came home 16 seconds adrfit of Cant, with British cyclo-cross champion Harris at 29 seconds. Fellow British rider Gabriella Durrin (Rapha-Focus) placed sixth.
Wyman won the opening Superprestige round in Ruddervoorde and subsequently successfully defended her European cyclo-cross title. Harris won Superprestige Hamme-Zogge ahead of Cant on November 10, and was runner-up behind Wyman in the European ‘cross champs.
In the men’s race, World Champion Sven Nys (Crelan KDL Cycling Team) justed edged out German Philipp Walsleben (BKCP-Powerplus) to take the victory. Klaas Vantornout (Sunweb-Napoleon) was third.
The next big race of the cyclo-cross season is round three of the UCI World Cup, taking place on November 23 in Koksijde, Belgium. Wyman is currently third in the UCI cyclo-cross ranking behind American Katherine Compton and Dutchwoman Marianne Vos. Harris is fourth. Great Britain head the women’s cyclo-cross ranking-by-nation.
The men’s UCI ranking is led by Sven Nys, with Belgium light years ahead of the rest of the world in the ranking-by-nation.
