HUTCHINSON SMASHES NATIONAL 50 RECORD
MICHAEL Hutchinson sliced almost two minutes off Kevin Dawson?s 11-year-old mark to break competition record in the Shaftesbury CC 50-mile event in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.
Hutchinson clocked 1-35-27 for the Six Mile Bottom course, winning the event by more than seven minutes to beat Dawson?s 1997 time by 1-54.
?I knew the event had the potential to be fast,? he told Cycling Weekly. ?But when I saw the weather forecast a couple of days before I knew there was a good chance of getting the record.
?Kevin?s time was a good one and it?s no surprise it?s stood for so long because he?s a class rider, so I was surprised to take so much off his time.?
Former competition record holder Ian Cammish (Planet X) was second with 1-41-41, while West Suffolk Wheelers? Peter Balls was third with 1-44-18.
