Josh Edmondson to guest ride for GB Cycling Team at Tour de Yorkshire
Josh Edmondson, who rode for Team Sky in 2013 and 2014, will join members of the British Cycling Academy at the Tour de Yorkshire as a guest rider
Former Team Sky rider Josh Edmondson will ride for the Great Britain Cycling Team at this weekend's Tour de Yorkshire, alongside seven members of the British Cycling Academy.
Leeds-born Edmondson, who raced for Sky in 2013 and 2014, now rides for Irish side An Post - Chain Reaction as he attempts to reinvigorate his career after it stalled somewhat at the in his two years at Sky.
The 22-year-old also rode for GB at the Herald Sun Tour in Australia in January, where he told Cycling Weekly how his personality differed from those in charge of Sky, leading to his release at the end of last season.
Now at An Post - Chain Reaction, however, Edmondson has had the chance to race at the Tour de Normandie and Circuit des Ardennes, but a guest ride in Yorkshire will pit him against some of his former Team Sky colleagues.
GB Cycling Team manager Keith Lambert said of his eight-man squad: “The Tour de Yorkshire represents a significant development opportunity for the under-23 academy riders and one which I know they’re all looking forward to.
"For them to take part in a Tour de France legacy race against some of the world’s best riders is a real exciting prospect and I’m hoping they will be able to learn from the British professionals such as Sir Bradley Wiggins, Ben Swift and Steve Cummings whilst in the peloton.”
