Kim Kirchen career profile

Besides the Schleck brothers, Kim Kirchen is one of Luxembourg?s most famous cycling exports. This is certainly not to damn with faint praise, Kirchen is a highly accomplished cyclist.

Turning professional with the De Nardi team in 1999, it was not until 2001 that Kirchen took his professional win at the Tour of Luxembourg.

Moving to the now defunct Fassa Bortolo team, Kirchen took wins a variety of different races including the prestigious Paris-Brussels and the Tour of Poland overall, illustrating his versatility.

2008 was Kirchen?s finest year to date, with an imperious display at Flèche Wallonne followed by a spell in the yellow jersey and seventh overall in the Tour de France (after Bernhard Kohl was disqualified for doping).

Kirchen targeted the Spring Classics and the Tour de France in 2009, but his only victory came in the national time trial championships.
