Win in Doha brings a record ninth stage and fourth overall title for the Giant-Shimano sprinter

Kirsten Wild (Giant-Shimano) won her fourth overall title at the Ladies Tour of Qatar with another irrepressible sprint finish on the final stage into Doha.

The Dutch rider took her third stage at this year’s race, and ninth of all time, with former world champion Giorgia Bronzini (Wiggle-Honda) a close second.

Melissa Hoskins (Orica-AIS) finished third.

Wild has now won 45% of all stages at the Ladies Tour of Qatar since it began in 2009, and today’s result never looked in doubt after her strong Giant-Shimano team quickly thwarted any attacks on the final five laps up and down the Doha Corniche.

To top off a fine four days for the Dutch squad, Wild’s lieutenant and stage two winner Amy Pieters finished second overall ahead of last year’s runner up Chloe Hosking (Hitec Products).

Lizzie Armitstead (Boels-Dolmans) finished ninth behind Wild and ended the race 23rd overall.
