London Olympic velopark plans

APPALLING, that?s how South Eastern Region?s chairman John Hawkridge described the Olympic Delivery Authority?s downsized plans for the 2012 Olympic Legacy Velopark in Hackney when they were revealed to British Cycling?s London Alliance yesterday (Monday).

The alliance ? formed of three Regions, Eastern, South and Central - were dismayed to learn of the loss of their cycling ideal, as space is taken for housing, tennis courts and allotments.

Keith Bingham joined the Cycling Weekly team in the summer of 1971, and retired in 2011. During his time, he covered numerous Tours de France, Milk Races and everything in-between. He was well known for his long-running 'Bikewatch' column, and played a pivotal role in fighting for the future of once at-threat cycling venues such as Hog Hill and Herne Hill Velodrome.
