Manon Lloyd looks to emulate her heroes at Cali World Cup
Eighteen-year-old track prodigy Manon Lloyd will race for Team USN at the World Cup in Colombia this weekend as BC's Olympic Academy Programme takes centre stage
She may only be 18, but Manon Lloyd is looking to make an impact on the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Colombia this weekend.
Lloyd, who won double gold at the junior European track championships in 2014, will be racing with the Welsh trade squad Team USN in the team pursuit and hopes to avenge the qualification-round knockout the team suffered in London in December.
With the majority of the squad for the final World Cup comprising of British Cycling’s Olympic Academy Programme riders, Lloyd will not get the chance to race alongside her heroes in South America.
But, talking to British Cycling, the youngster says she hopes her experience will help her emulate the likes of Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell and Elinor Barker as stars of British Cycling.
“I just hope that maybe one day I can be up there,” she said.
“They've come through the academy and stuff like that so hopefully I can progress on to the podium (programme) one day and be like them.”
“Team USN helps us quite a lot, supporting us and it is really good, we are grateful to have them behind us.
