Olympic and world road race champion Marianne Vos was the star of the show at Saturday night’s Revolution meeting in Manchester.

The Dutchwoman won the women’s omnium overall, yet even before she started competing, she was the rider getting most attention from the sold-out crowd at the National Cycling Centre.

In between posing for photographs and signing autographs, Vos (Rabobank) reprised her London 2012 rivalry with Lizzie Armitstead (AA Drinks-leontien.nl) in the elimination race. Repeating what happened on The Mall four months ago, Vos took the win.

However, a trio of Armitstead, Joanna Rowsell and Elinor Barker also saw off Vos, Ellen van Dyck and Amy Pieters in the one-off Great Britain versus Netherlands team pursuit showdown.

Fellow Brit Katie Colclough (Specialized-Lululemon) also enjoyed success last night. Colclough attacked late on and held off an onrushing bunch in an exciting finish to the scratch race. Like Armitstead, this was the first time she has raced on the track since the Nationals in September 2011.

Vos’ compatriot Amy Pieters won the final race of the night, with an aggressive display in the omnium points race.

Team Sky’s Alex Dowsett and Luke Rowe enjoyed a successful night, too. Making his last appearance in black, white and blue before his move to Movistar, Dowsett rode impressively to take the victory in the scratch race. Earlier in the night, Rowe narrowly won the points race and also pipped NetApp-Endura’s Russell Downing in the elimination race.

Rapha-Condor’s world champions Ed Clancy and Andy Tennant won the Madison Time Trial for the second round in succession, with pseudo-sprinter Clancy also triumphing in the flying lap.

Highlights of the racing will be shown on ITV4 on Wednesday (December 5); Round three of the series takes place on January 5, before culminating at the new Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow at the start of February.
