Mark Cavendish underlines return to form with victory on stage two of French race to extend overall lead

Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) won his second consecutive stage of the Tour du Poitou Charentes in France on Wednesday.

Cavendish got the better of Movistar fastman Enrique Sanz with Frenchman Lorenzo Manzin (FDJ) in third. The Manx sprinter’s consistent performance shows that he has firmly put his Tour de France shoulder injury behind him.

Cavendish earned himself more bonus seconds to extend his lead in the general classification. He now sits 14 seconds ahead of second-placed Sanz, with Maxime Daniel (Ag2r) in third at the same time.

The UCI 2.1-ranked Tour du Poitou Charentes concludes on Saturday, August 30. Cavendish will then take part in the 2014 Tour of Britain, kicking off in Liverpool on September 7.
