Nikki Harris, Helen Wyman, Annie Last, Gabby Day and Ian Field will all represent Great Britain at the 2013 cyclo-cross World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, over February 2 and 3.

Newly-crowned British national cyclo-cross champion Harris spearheads a very strong senior women’s team alongside former British champion Helen Wyman, Olympic mountain biker Annie Last and Gabby Day.

Wyman currently sits in second place in the UCI cyclo-cross world rankings, with Harris in fourth and Day in 12th. American Katherine Compton is in first spot – and must rank as one of the favourites for the ‘cross title, particularly in front of a home crowd.

British champion Ian Field is the sole male representative in the senior Worlds race. Britain is well represented in the under-23 and junior men’s races, with Steven James, Adam Martin, Hugh Robinson (under-23s), Billy Harding, Adam King, Jack Ravenscroft and Jake Womersley (juniors) selected.

“The women’s team in particular have had a very strong season, with Helen Wyman and Nikki Harris now both ranked in the top five in the individual UCI rankings whilst the GB women are ranked second in the nation rankings so that should make for a very exciting race,” said GB Cyclo-Cross Team Manager Phil Dixon.

“Following on from the National Championships at the weekend, Ian Field was the standout men’s rider for me having won the national champion jersey for the second consecutive season.

“I’m also interested to see how the Under-23 and Junior squads get on – we’ve selected some young development athletes to take to the Worlds and they’re looking to build on the experience they gained by racing at the European Champions in Ipswich in November. Overall, the team is looking in good shape and we’re all looking forward to the racing.”

The ‘cross Worlds will be the first outing for Great Britain’s new team clothing, unveiled earlier this month.
