British riders Nikki Harris (VZW Young Telenet Fidea) and Helen Wyman (Kona Factory Racing) put in solid performances in the second round of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup at Koksijde, Belgium, on Saturday, both placing inside the top 10.

Harris finished the race in fifth place, one minute and 18 seconds behind round winner Sanne Cant (Enertherm-BKCP), with British national champion Wyman in ninth place at 2-22.

Cant attacked on the final climb of the notoriously sandy course to take the victory ahead of Sabrina Stultiens (Rabo Liv) in second and Sophie De Boer (Parkhotel Valkenburg) in third.

De Boer relieved American Katherine Compton (Trek) of the overall lead in the World Cup series, with Cant in second place.

Van Aert wins men's race

Twenty-year-old Wout Van Aert (Vastgoedservice-Golden Palace) won the elite men's race ahead of Kevin Pauwels (Sunweb) and Mathieu Van Der Poel (BKCP-Powerplus).

Van Aert made his mark in his debut senior World Cup, breaking free from his rivals to spend most of the time solo out front.

British rider Ian field finished in 24th spot, 3-56 adrift of Van Aert.

Pauwels takes over the overall lead in the men's World Cup series.

The UCI World Cup continues this weekend (November 29-30) at Milton Keynes in the UK, when British riders will be hoping for a strong performance on home soil.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
