James Nelson's body found below Hebden Bridge last week

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information has to how a keen cyclist died in North Yorkshire last week.

The body of James Nelson was found last Thursday next to a stream and rocks below Dibble’s Bridge on the B6265 road that connects Hebden with Pateley Bridge.

Nelson, 32, died of multiple and traumatic injuries to head and chest, a post-mortem examination found.

Police do not believe that he was involved in an accident with a car but are struggling to figure out how the Skipton Cycling Club rider fell from the road.

The time of the incident has been narrowed down to between 7pm on Wednesday, August 13, and 10.30am on Thursday, August 14.

Traffic Constable Steve Beckwith, of North Yorkshire Road Policing Group, called on members of the public who have any knowledge of the accident to come forward.

“We don’t think James has been hit,” he said. “We don’t think there is anything suspicious about his death at this stage.

“We want to hear from anyone who saw him on that road, especially as he approached the bridge.”

His sister, Sarah Nelson, commented: “He loved his family and being with his friends. The world is a darker place without him.”

People with information should contact TC Beckwith at Skipton Police Station on 101 or email steve.beckwith@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference number 12140137657.
