Jon Baylis, a prominent time trialist of the late 50?s to mid 60?s of Southampton Wheelers passed away on June 26 aged 68. After suffering a long illness, Jon will be truly missed but remembered as a great cyclist.

In 1960 he was short listed for the Rome Olympics track team and took the national 100 mile time trial title in 1961. In 1960 and in 1961 he was the British Army cycling champion during his National Service tenure.

That very same year he then lead the Wheelers team to the 12-hour title. In 1963 he finished runner up in the 100 -mile championship and during his racing career with the Southampton Wheelers took the club champion title nine times where most of his records stood for over 20 years.
