The Tour of Catalunya stage four finish at Port Ainé is still experiencing snow - could we see another stage cancellation next week?

After the cancellations of stages at both Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico last week, the Tour of Catalunya may be the next race to see a stage fall foul of the weather.

Port Ainé hosts the finish of stage four next Thursday, but is still experiencing heavy snowfall, with snow as deep as 75cm at 1,650m.

The webcam picture above (h/t ProCyclingStats) shows just how thick and widespread the snow is on the mountain, which is a popular ski resort in the Catalan Pyrenees.

Stage three at Paris-Nice was abandoned halfway through as snow and cold temperatures battered the peloton, while Tirreno’s queen stage was called off the night before because of the forecast of snow.

The snow on that occasion did not materialise, leading Vincenzo Nibali and Astana threatening to pull out of the Giro d’Italia because organisers RCS Sport were so hasty in cancelling stages.
