The first running of the Orbital Cycling Festival will take place at the Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit in Chichester, West Sussex, over July 26-28.

Festival organisers have developed the event to appeal to all types of cyclist, irrespective of age or ability.

Three days of action kicks off with a Youth road race at 5pm on Friday, July 26. The racing then includes a keirin, eliminator race, 20km time trial, road race, scratch race, sprints, off-road cyclo-cross race, fixed-gear criterium and an “urban style paddock race” (you’ll have to look that one up on the event website).

All of the racing takes place on Goodwood’s 2.4-mile closed road circuit. Family rides take place on both Saturday and Sunday around the circuit’s perimeter road. Younger riders will be able to take advantage of the Go-Ride events run by qualified coaches.

In between the riding and racing, the organisers have put on plenty of entertainment including a paddock expo with trade stands and the Animal Bike Tour trials team, which includes ‘Road Bike Party’ YouTube film star Martyn Ashton.

Pitches for both tents and motorhomes will be available at the site throughout the weekend, with on-site toilets, hot showers and plenty of food available from vendors.

Entry to all of the events will be open from the end of January via the British Cycling website.

For more information on all of the events, take a look at the Orbital Cycling Festival website.

Is this the same Goodwood that stopped the very popular Tuesday night series in 2012 after it had been running for twenty years? Former riders who race there include Bradley Wiggins, David Millar and Sean Yates.

Damn, I thought for a moment there that Orbital were going to be playing at a cycling festival. Oh well.
