A new campaign has been started to remove Value Added Tax (VAT) from bicycle lights in the UK.

Paul Power, who runs Coastal Cycles and Dutch Bike Shop in Littlehampton has created an epetition on the government website asking for VAT to be lifted on these necessary bits of safety equipment.

“At the moment lights are treated as a luxury item and I believe that this is wrong. Cycle lights are not only a mandatory requirement, but, can potentially save lives,” Mr Power said.

I would sign the petition except the maths is wrong – removing VAT would not reduce the price by 20%, it reduces it by 17%. Please can someone see if Paul can remove the words “by 20%” from the second to last paragraph? Then it will be correct.
Thanks for getting this petition going.
