Rapha is holding a sample sale over the coming weekend

Rapha has announced a sample sale at its Kilver Court store. It’s in Shepton Mallet in Somerset, so it’s close to Bath, Bristol and Yeovil, and the home of its Archive Store.

>>> Inside Rapha: is it just branding or a British success story?

Rapha says that stock for sale will include end of season clothing, production samples and one-off garments which have never been offered for sale. It says that items for sale will include stock in all sizes, from all its ranges and both men’s and women’s products.

Rapha says that although most of the stock is new, there are some customer returns and items which did not pass quality control.

There are a few caveats though: items can only be returned for a refund or exchange during the sale. Once the sale is over, that’s it. You can’t reserve items in advance or phone to see if specific items are in the sale; all items must be bought in person.

>>>Rapha becomes more affordable with new ‘Core’ range

The sample sale runs from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 October, between 10:30 and 17:30 on Friday and Saturday and between 10:00 and 17:00 on Sunday. If you’re a member of Rapha Cycling Club, you can start shopping at 9:30 on Friday and Saturday, so you should get the pick of the available stock.

It’s the wank they come up with that people hate: you can’t generate buzz if you don’t have wank, and when objective judgement gives them a proper ranking, then the wank is all they have to distinguish themselves from the other upper-end companies making fairly-short-lived couture. I mean kit.

If Rapha just stuck to selling cycling clothes they probably wouldn’t get any more “hate” than other brands.

I like to wear a lemon yellow pringle jumper with a cravat, tailored shorts (double pleated of course) pringle dog tooth knee length socks and a pair of cleat adapted versace deck shoes. Club rules are very strict and the member s only policy would normally prevent me from saying so.
    Don’t think clothes think etiquette!

It’s also more expensive and doesn’t look as nice IMHO. I wear a Gabba because they’re so good, but Castelli stuff is so ugly. Likewise for the other ‘premium’ brands. I’ve never paid full price for Rapha, but I’ve got two jackets – a Softshell and a Pro Team – and they’re both fantastic. I’m no Raphaphile, but the hate they get is unwarranted when you look at equivalent things from other brands.

just buy assos – it’s far nicer

  • dougles

Out of interest, what do you wear to cycle?

Good input so far guys, any advance on ‘overpriced’?

  • llos25

IMO it is very expensive and badly designed.
