Pippa Middleton launches British Heart Foundation's London to Brighton event

Keen cyclist Pippa Middleton will ride the 40th annual London to Brighton charity ride as part of her role with the British Heart Foundation

Pippa Middleton, the sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, will join more than 25,000 cyclists riding between London and Brighton on June 21 on behalf of the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Ms Middleton is an ambassador for the Foundation and will take part in the 40th edition of the charity ride, which has seen more than 800,000 riders participate since 1975.

According to the Littlehampton Gazette, only 36 riders took part in its inaugural year but has transformed into one of the largest charity rides in Europe.

Ms Middleton hit the headlines in 2011 when she almost stole the show at her sister’s wedding to Prince William thanks to a figure-hugging dress.

But when she’s not dressed in her best frocks, the 31-year-old can often be found sporting Lycra on her road bike, raising more than £15,000 by cycling across America last year.

“As a keen cyclist, I am thrilled to be involved in this milestone year of the London to Brighton bike ride,” she said at the event's launch.

“This event is testament to the fact that cycling is such a great inclusive sport that everyone can enjoy and at the same time, through the money raised, it continues to help millions of people affected by heart disease.”

Registration for the event opens on January 17, with more information available on the BHF website.
