Britain’s Emma Pooley continues her current strong form in the Giro Donne, where the Cervelo rider currently sits in third place in the overall classification after two stages.

Pooley placed third in Sunday’s 13.5km time trial stage behind Americans Amber Neben (Equipe Nurnberger) and Kristin Armstrong (Cervelo). In the previous day’s 99.9km road stage Pooley placed ninth, just five seconds behind stage winner Edita Pucinskaite (Gauss RDZ Ormu).

British under-23 national champion Lizzie Armitstead (Lotto Belisol) tops the young rider classification. Armitstead came 22nd in the time trial, one minute 35 seconds behind Neben.

The ten-day Giro Donne started on Friday, July 3, and concludes on Sunday, July 12. Monday’s stage features a tough mountain-top finish, which will suit Pooley’s climbing ability.

Last month Pooley won the Grande Boucle Feminine, the ‘women’s Tour de France’, after winning two stages.
