PORTER HONOURED IN MIDLANDS SPORTS PERSONALITY AWARDS
Hugh Porter MBE, the four-time pursuit world champion, was given the Hall of Fame Award at the recent BBC Midlands Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
He joins a list of past Hall of Fame award winners that includes Sir Stanley Matthews, Gordon Banks, Anne Jones and Aston Villa's 1983 European Cup winning team.
Added to that award, Porter has recently been honoured with the Freedom of the City of Wolverhampton. The official ceremony will take place in February. He is only the 28th person to receive this honour since 1890.
Porter - pictured with wife Anita - is now more widely known as a commentator for the BBC's cycling coverage, and he was present at the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year awards on Sunday enthusiastically cheering on the cyclists.
