Ever wondered how Shimano managed to package its road hydraulics into such a small hood? Well Shimano Japan obviously feels for you as they have just released a very sharp-looking illustration of the ST-R785 hydraulic disc brake STI.

The illustrator has used a phantom technique to give an outline of the shifter itself (below) with the hood, brake lever and electronics along with the hydraulic reservoir, master cylinder and hydraulic brake line all clearly marked. The red area is where the hydraulic mineral oil can be found.

We just love the graphic for the electronics of the shift buttons hidden in the brake lever as well as the circuit board hidden underneath in the body of the shifter.

You can also make out the main piston and brake lever pivot as well as the screw/access point at the top of the lever which is used for bleeding and top up.
