Simon Gerrans career profile
Simon Gerrans is an Australian hilly Classics specialist and an increasingly adept all-rounder capable of winning races an every type of terrain.

Turning professional with the Ag2r team in 2005, the Australian won two major European races in his debut season, Tour du Finistere and the GP Industria e Commercio, quickly making a name for himself.

A move to Crédit Agricole followed, after a string of wins including an overall win at the Tour Down Under, for what proved to be a highly successful year.

A stage win at Prato Nevoso was Gerrans’ crowning achievement, in which he demonstrated his tactical nous, riding within himself against better climbers before out-sprinting them at the finish.

Moving to Cervélo in 2009, Gerrans won another mountain stage, this time in the Giro d’Italia, although bizarrely, this performance did not merit him a ride in the Tour de France. A major Classic win at the GP Ouest France Plouay topped yet another fine year for the Australian.

After two relatively lean years at the British-based Team Sky from 2010 to 2011, Gerrans jumped ship to Australian outfit GreenEdge for 2012 and immediately won the season’s first WorldTour race, the Tour Down Under, followed by Milan-San Remo.

Gerrans then went on to claim the Australian outfit’s first Tour de France win in 2013, taking stage three ahead of Peter Sagan on Corsica.
