Sixth fatality of the year as Dorset cyclist is killed in collision

The cyclist was hit from behind near Dorchester on Thursday evening, with the driver of the car in a stable condition in hospital

An unnamed 46-year-old man has become the sixth cyclist to die on Britain’s roads since the turn of the year after being involved in a collision near Dorchester.

The man was cycling along the B4137 at 6.43pm when the incident occurred on Thursday, January 8 between the Weirs roundabout and Loders garage.

According to Dorset Police, the cyclist sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, with his next of kin already informed.

The rider was reportedly struck from behind by a black-coloured Fiat between the Weirs roundabout and Loders garage.

The 62-year-old driver of the Fiat was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Dorset County Hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

Dorset Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or manner of driving or cycling prior to the incident to call PC Tim Gooding of the Dorset Police Traffic Unit on 101 quoting incident number 8:349.
