Chris Hoy and Ross Edgar took gold and silver after a flawless run through the Keirin competition at the Sydney World Cup.

The pressure was on from the start as only the winners of each first round heat were guaranteed a place in the second round without having to go through the repecharges.

Hoy, riding for Great Britain, beat Frenchman Gregory Bauge in his heat, then Ross Edgar of Science in Sport followed him through.

In the second round Hoy won again ? despite a tough line-up. Mickael Bourgain of France and Stefan Nimke of Germany failed to make it through. Edgar was third behind Holland?s Theo Bos and Italian Roberto Chiappa to make the final.

And in that final the two Brits took gold and silver to put Britain in a fantastic position in the race to qualify for the Olympics.

David Brailsford, Great Britain?s performance director, said: ?It?s been a much better night. Last night we got the job done in terms of getting points on the board for Olympic qualification. We have hit the ground running without being on the boil in terms of form. It?s all about those points at this stage.

?But it?s always nice to win things. Chris and Ross have been fantastic in the Keirin. They have stepped up and made sure.?
