Ford signs a multi-year deal to provide Team Sky with vehicles from the start of the 2016 season, replacing Jaguar

Team Sky just got a little less exotic. After announcing its partnership with Jaguar was to end after the 2015 season it named American car giant Ford as its successor.

Out go the Jaguar XF Sportbrakes and F-Types and in come a host of Ford Mondeos, S-MAXs, Kugas and Transit vans.

While the brand may not scream luxury in the way that Jaguar does, Team Sky will be equipped with high-spec models for the start of the 2016 season, with 2.0 litre diesel engines, bespoke bike racks, radio systems and other flashy audio-visual equipment.

The team will also have specific cars for the demanding races in Northern Europe, with Ford’s PowerShift AWD cars measuring how the car’s wheels are gripping on the cobbled or muddy road surface and can adjust torque delivery between the front and rear wheels in under 20 milliseconds…which is good, apparently.

“Ford is the perfect partner for Team Sky, sharing our core values of combining technology and innovation to meet the specific and often varied demands needed in any high performance environment,” said Sir David Brailsford, team principal at Team Sky.

“As we embark on our racing programme, Ford’s range of vehicles will play a vital role for Team Sky delivering the right car for the right environment as we strive towards even greater success and more race wins in 2016 and beyond.”

You can tell the Mondeo and the XF are the same car. Although the Mondeo isn’t bad looking at all, just badge snobbery from people. Fords are decent these days.

    Such cliché BS.

Also, does anybody take that much notice of team cars? They’ll still have the Death Star, which is more impressive.

The same car under the skin only the Ford is more reliable and if you think Ford have still nothing to do with Jaguar think again.

Sponsoring teams get a reduced return after 3-4 years as the hype becomes background noise, new customer take up dies off and the investment becomes worthless. slap a new sponsor in and hey look everyone is talking bout it…

Used to think it looked quite imperious when a British team went round in Jags while the others had the likes of the reliable but boring Skoda. Even better when they brought out the F-types. Now they are swapping that for the Mundaino… Shame.

The new Mondeo! Ugly! the designer should be sacked! It looks like a whale on the road!

so they can afford his dope

Jags are nice, especially for a british team. However lets not forget what company created the first consumer car!

They’ve probably downgraded so they can afford froomeys contract that he’s just signed to stay with sky until 2018

I don’t doubt Ford make good reliable cars but it’s light and day with the Jags in terms of luxury and performance and most of all it’s made in Britain! If Sir David calls Ford their ‘perfect partner’ what was Jags’?
