Bradley Wiggins’s new team will make its competitive debut at this month’s four-day Challenge Mallorca event – albeit without the 2012 Tour de France champion.

Although no official launch date has been announced for the new squad, Team Wiggins’s eight riders are expected to take part in the popular Balearic event, which comprises of four-consecutive one-day races between January 29 and February 1.

Wiggins will join the team that bears his name during the UCI’s permitted transfer window in June; he will ride for Team Sky prior to that, with an assault on Paris-Roubaix his biggest target.

The world time trial champion has started his last two seasons at Challenge Majorca, however it is currently unknown if either he – or Sky – will take part in this year’s event. The races are well supported by British fans, in part because of the number of amateur cyclists training on the island at the time.

Meanwhile, three of Team Wiggins’s riders – Mark Christian, Owain Doull and Andy Tennant – rode this weekend’s Revolution Series meeting in Manchester, albeit on behalf of those teams who make up the elite championship.

However, they were all sporting shorts and socks from Rapha’s GS Imperial range (see below), all-but confirming that the popular clothing company will supply Team Wiggins’s kit in 2015, as first reported by Cycling Weekly last year.

CW also understands that the squad has belatedly received a UCI Continental license, the same level at which JLT-Condor, Madison-Genesis NFTO, One Pro Cycling and Raleigh-GAC operate.

The sport’s governing body are yet to confirm the list of squads operating at this level for 2015. At present, Wiggins’s name does not appear under Team Sky’s registered line-up on the UCI’s website.

Bradley Wiggins’s name is currently missing from the UCI’s list of Sky riders for 2015.
