After the success of the Tour de France grand départ in London, is Scotland keen to get in on the act?

Tucked away at the bottom of the Tour de France’s official announcement that the 2009 prologue will take in part of the Monaco motor racing circuit, is the revelation that officals in Scotland has approached Christian Prudhomme about hosting the start of the Tour.

Prudhomme does not elaborate further but it’s a fascinating prospect.

The state of Qatar ? which already hosts a race run by Amaury Sport Organisation, the Tour of Qatar ? has made an official approach.

But a trip to the Middle East for the opening weekend could be too much of a stretch, logistically, even for the Tour de France.

But could it be that Glasgow or Edinburgh may one day host the start of the Tour?

Cycling Weekly is on the case and will be first with any more news.
