Great Britain’s Laura Trott placed fourth in Friday’s junior women’s World Championship time trial in Italy, narrowly missing out on a podium position.

Trott was one of only three riders to get within a minute of winner Canna Solovei of the Ukraine. Solovei clocked 21-30.36 on the 15.1km course in Offida, Italy, to walk away with the coveted rainbow jersey.

French woman Pauline Ferrand Prevot claimed silver, with Australian Amy Cure in the bronze medal position. Trott was fourth 53 seconds adrift of Solovei.

Earlier this season, Trott won the British junior national 10-mile TT title. She also won the Omloop van Borsele stage race in Holland in April.

No British riders are on the start list for the junior men’s time trial, but Josh Edmondson, Thomas Moses and Adam Yates take on the road race on Sunday, August 8.

Trott will now represent Great Britain at next week’s junior Track World Championships in Montichiari, Italy, (August 11-15).
