WEGELIUS IN CALIFORNIA BREAK AND ON EARLY FORM
Charly Wegelius (Liquigas) was in the long break during the hilly third stage of the Tour of California on Wednesday from Stockton to San Jose in Silicon Valley.
Wegelius did his share of the work to make sure the move stayed clear on the early climbs and was only dropped when Jason McCartney (Discovery Channel) kept attacking to blow apart the break on the final Sierra Road climb. Wegelius was dropped and finished in a chasing group but was happy to be in the action.
?I felt good and worked hard but then everybody kept going with McCartney. I held them for a while but couldn?t get back up to them,? he told Cycling Weekly.
?I?m still pleased because I showed my face and it?ll keep the boss off my back for a while. I?m happy with my form because it?s still early and my peak will be both the Giro d?Italia and Tour de France.?
