Team Sky’s rosters for October reveal that Bradley Wiggins will round off his 2010 road season with rides in the last three big Classics of the season, starting with Paris-Tours, continuing with the Giro Piemonte and going through to the last ‘Monument’ of the year, the Tour of Lombardy.
Wiggins, who last raced in the Tour of Britain, is one of six riders named by Sky for all three Classics.
The three races represent a new departure for Wiggins. Although he has often taken part in the Spring Classics, the Londoner – who started racing this year in the Tour of Qatar – will be making his debut in the late season one-day events.
On paper, Paris-Tours could suit the Sky leader the best, with its punchy finish of three short, sharp climbs just outside Tours preceded by a long grind across the plains of northern France.
Sky for Paris-Tours (October 10): Kurt-Asle Arvesen, Kjell Carlstrom, Steve Cummings, Juan Antonio Flecha, Lars-Petter Nordhaug, Davide Vigano, Bradley Wiggins
Giro Piemonte (October 14) and Tour of Lombardy (October 16): John-Lee Augustyn, Kjell Carlstrom, Dario Cioni, Steve Cummings, Lars-Petter Nordhaug, Serge Pauwels, Morris Possoni and Bradley Wiggins.
