BRADLEY Wiggins, Britain?s top performer in the Tour de France this year, will also ride the Shropshire Star Newport Nocturne, it was announced this morning.

Olympic champion Wiggins will join two other Tour stars, Mark Cavendish and Geraint Thomas in the town centre elite race on Saturday evening, September 1.

Wiggins was fourth in the London prologue of the Tour, author of the 190km break in the first week and fifth in the Albi time trial before his team, Cofidis, quit the Tour when their Christian Moreni tested positive.

Former world champion Rob Hayles will also ride.

As well as the elite and Past Masters race, the evening will feature a one-lap time trial, ?The Battle for Beijing?, aimed at Olympic selection hopefuls.
