WIGGINS THE STAR AT HERNE HILL MEET

DOUBLE World Champion Bradley Wiggins (Cofidis) was the star attraction at the Southern Counties CU Good Friday meeting at Herne Hill, London, winning both the 10-minute pursuit as well as the 15-lap elimination race.

Wiggins pushed GB Academy youngster Alex Dowsett (100 Per Cent Me) into second spot in the 10-Minute Pursuit, with Plowman Craven RT rider Jason Allen third.

He then won the 15-lap elimination race from another Plowman Craven RT rider, Tony Gibb, while Allen was third once again.

But in the Golden Wheel 18-kilometre scratch race Wiggins was pushed off the podium, Allen stealing the win after a late solo attack from Wiggins was caught on the final lap. Allen clocked 22-50.69, while Dowsett took second and Gibb third.

Germany?s Jan Van Eijden won the Invitation Sprint, completing the last 200 metres in the fastest time of the day - 11.180sec - while CC Cardiff?s Robin Thompson was second and Czech track coach Denis Spicka third.

Triple World Champion Victoria Pendleton was on hand to present the prizes, and despite not riding she received rapturous applause from the huge crowd for her achievements in Palma last week.
