Seven WorldTour teams will take part in the inaugural Prudential RideLondon Surrey Classic cycle race on Sunday, August 4.

Sky, Cannondale, FDJ, Garmin-Sharp, Vacansoleil-DCM, Orica-GreenEdge and Belkin have all signed up to ride the event alonside a selection of Professional Continental and domestic squads. In total, 25 teams will take part in the UCI 1.1-ranked, 140-mile race which is based on the London 2012 Olympic road race route (map below).

“There has been huge interest in the event from the top teams,” said race director Mick Bennett. “The route, which is a variation of that used for the Olympic Road Cycling event plus three circuits of Leith Hill, together with extensive coverage on BBC and international TV, has been a big draw.”

Three more teams have yet to be announced, so there is a possibility of further WorldTour teams taking to the start line.

The professional men’s race is part of a programme of events of the weekend of August 3-4, which also includes a sportive and women’s circuit race, the RideLondon Grand Prix.

3 more teams to be announced, so hopefully Cav and OPQS will be one of them.

I hope this race is a success to encourage more races of this level in the UK and I hope the BBC get the commentary right this time.
