A new race aimed at six to 16 year old riders has been announced. The Youth Tour of Wales takes place over two consecutive weekends in August.

The success of the RIS Insulation Junior Tour of Wales – an event supported by Blaenau Gwent Council throughout its 28 year history – has led the organisers to form an event for riders in the younger age categories.

The youth event will be on similar lines to the Junior Tour – there are two road stages, divided into age categories, and one time trial stage for all categories (schedule below). All of the racing takes place on closed roads at Parc Bryn Bach, near Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent.

Sponsorship has been arranged with Arriva Trains Wales, who are keen to promote cycling as a positive activity for young people and at the same time celebrate the success of the Ebbw Vale Line.
