David Zabriskie Tour of California prologue

David Zabriskie's Salt Lake City home was completely ransacked by thieves as the Garmin-Slipstream rider was taking part in the Tour of California last week.

The thieves made off with tens of thousands of dollars' worth of electrical equipment, cars, bikes and even Zabriskie's clothing. In addition, the burglars took irreplaceable Olympic and mementoes and race trophies.

Zabriskie left a message on his Twitter page announcing the break-in on Tuesday: "My house was broken into while at TOC. They took everything, a lot of bikes, cars, and you name it they got it."

Zabriskie's mother, Sheree Hammick, discovered that her son's house had been burgled on Monday. Hammick told news agency AP that she had gone to check on the property whilst her son was away to find the garage empty and the house ransacked.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
