Matt Crampton career profile
Manchester-born Matt Crampton burst onto the scene in 2004, when he struck double gold in the European Track Championships as a junior, winning both the sprint and keirin. Since then, Crampton has both suffered and gained from the strength of Britain's track sprinters - he has been passed over on a number of occasions when team selections have come around; but there's no doubting that he has also learned a great deal from Chris Hoy, Jamie Staff, Craig MacLean and their British cohorts.

Crampton's race condition has been building nicely over the 2008/09 track season, winning several races in the Revolution track series against world-class rivals. His form was underlined with a bronze medal in the sprint during the UCI track world cup's visit to Manchester in October/November 2008. He also won the Japanese invitational Keirin the next day.

With Hoy sidelined with injury, Crampton was selected as part of Team GB's sprint squad for the 2009 track world championships in Poland, at last giving him a stab at a rainbow jersey.
