Linus Gerdemann career profile
Linus Gerdemann shot to prominence winning a stage of the Tour of Switzerland in 2005, jumping away from the peloton to take an impressive solo victory.
Attracting quite considerable attention from other teams by this point, the young German signed for T-Mobile for the 2006 season, negotiating his way out of his contract with the Danish CSC team.
His 2007 season was marked by a stage win in the Tour de France and a brief spell in the leader’s yellow jersey, a remarkable accomplishment for the young German. Aiming to capitalise on this, Gerdemann started the 2008 season with high hopes.
However, a heavy crash and a broken femur at Tirenno-Adriatico put him out of action for several months. It is a testament to Gerdemann’s determination that he returned in the second part of the season stronger than ever. Not a pure climber, Gerdemann took a stage and the overall at the mountainous Tour of Germany as well as the prestigious Coppa Agostini.
2009 saw another change of teams as Gerdemann once again negotiated his way out of his contract with Columbia to move to the German Milram squad. One of the most prodigious talents to emerge from Germany in recent years, there is still a lot to come from the man from Munster.
