WIGGINS OUT TRAINING IN NEW GARMIN COLOURS

Double Olympic pursuit champion Bradley Wiggins has been in Mallorca over the last week putting in a block of training with GB pursuit team-mate Geraint Thomas (Barloworld).

Sporting his new team Garmin-Chipotle colours, he and Thomas have put in some solid rides which included an interrupted six-hour ride on Monday.

The pair had got to a point towards Lluc on their route back and found their road to Peurto de Pollenca obstructed by a landslide. Having already ridden six hours, the diversion back would have meant another two and a half hours ride, so they stopped back in Soller and phoned for the Great Britain car to come and pick them up.

Wiggins and Thomas were leaving the island to fly back to Britain on Friday, with Thomas appearing in the Revolution 23 track meeting at Manchester velodrome on Saturday night.

After achieving gold medal success in the individual and team pursuit at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Wiggins is set to concentrate on his road racing in 2009 with Jonathan Vaughters' Garmin outfit.
