WYMAN FOURTH IN KOKSIJDE

Helen Wyman scored her best World Cup result of the season with fourth place in the sand dunes of Koksijde.

The British national cyclo-cross champion joined a leading group of five from the first lap but was unable to match American Katie Compton, who took the win ahead of World Champion Hanka Kupfernagel and Daphny van den Brand.

Wyman's Swift Racing team-mate Gabby Day finished 18th.

Wyman's result takes her up to eighth overall in the World Cup standings after four rounds. Day now lies in 16th overall.

VERVECKEN'S STILL GOT IT
In the mens race, 36-year-old former World Champion Erwin Vervecken showed he still has what it takes, outsprinting fellow Belgian Sven Nys at the end of a gripping hour of racing.

Vervecken and three Fidea team-mates reeled in the Belgian champion to set up the veteran for his fifth victory at Koksidje stretching back to 1993.

Vervecken is a notoriously slow starter to the season: do not count him out for the World Championships in Hoogerheide in the New Year.

Britons Ian Field and Jody Crawforth finished 33rd and 41st respectively.
