In only the first day of competition of the second round of the Track World Cup in Melbourne, Britain's cyclists have added a further two gold medals to add to the 14 scored in Manchester.

Jo Rowsell, already a World Champion in the team pursuit, dominated the individual pursuit, setting fastest times in qualifying and in the final, over one and a half seconds ahead of Australia's Josephine Tomic.

It was Rowsell's best performance in the individual pursuit to date, going two better on her bronze medal at the Manchester World Cup, where she was beaten by team-mate, Wendy Houvenaghel.

Rowsell now leads the World Cup standings in the individual pursuit, with a seven point lead over Charlotte Becker of Germany.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire's Lizzie Armitstead built on her incredible performance in Manchester where she won three gold medals, adding a further gold in the scratch race.

Qualifying eighth in the heats, Armitstead then demonstrated her rapid turn of speed in the final, to hold off Annalisa Cucinotta of Italy and Evgeniya Romanyuta of Russia.

Armitstead is now ten points clear in the World Cup scratch race standings, having also won gold in the event at Manchester.
