Roger Hammond career profile
Roger Hammond showed considerable promise as a schoolboy, winning the prestigious world junior cyclo-cross championships.
Electing to continue with his university education before focusing entirely on cycling, Hammond forged a successful career on the continent riding for predominantly Belgian teams.
His big break came in 2004 when he finished third at Paris-Roubaix, which landed him a ride at Lance Armstrong’s Discovery Channel team for the next season and was the culmination of a great deal of hard work and several fine results in some major races.
Two years later, Hammond was on the move again; this time to T-Mobile, after a largely fruitless relationship with the American team. Specialising in the Spring Classics as well as cyclo-cross, Hammond became one of the pillars of the Columbia team as well as a key-lead out man for fellow countryman, Mark Cavendish.
Hammond got his 2009 season off to a flying start with the new Cervélo Test Team, winning a stage of the Tour of Qatar and enjoying a brief spell in the leader's jersey.
Hammond signed with Garmin-Cervelo for the 2011 season after the demise of the Cervelo Test Team at the end of 2010.
At the end of the 2011 season, Hammond found himself without a contract, effectively ending his professional racing career at the top level.
Hammond has signed up as manager of the British-based Madison Genesis under-23 road team for the 2013 season.

Fantastic Roger who my wife and I met again at the Veulta in 2010 after meeting him first a few weeksbefore his fantastic win in the Worlds Cyclo Cross champs when we decided at our bike factory Orbit Cycles that he was worthy of at least two bikes- he eventually had FIVE Orbits the famous Tiger Stripes ones being the most noticed and he later worked at our factory for what he considers his technical skills He insisted that he wrote a prologue for my recntly published life story A Bike Ride through My Life, now available on Amazon Best wishes for the future Roger - Frank and Rosalie Clements
