GUTIERREZ TAKES ENECO TOUR OPENER

Jose Gutierrez (Caisse d'Epargne) rode into the leader's jersey of the 2008 Eneco Tour today by winning the opening prologue.

Defending 2007 Eneco Tour champion Gutierrez pipped second-placed Cyril Lemoine (Credit Agricole) at the end of the compact 4.4 kilometre prologue time trial in Geleen, Holland, by a fraction of a second.

Britain's Roger Hammond (Team Columbia) finished in 107th, with compatriot Jeremy Hunt (Credit Agricole) at 141st. Last year, Britain's David Millar came second overall and Mark Cavendish won the points competition - neither rider is in attendance this year.

The seven stage race based in Holland and Belgium continues tomorrow with a 174km route from Beek to Roermond, Holland. The final stage is on Wednesday August 27.
