Cooke lands the big one. Crossing the line after a long sprint to take her first Olympic medal.
Cooke is one happy lady as she stands on top of the podium to deliver Team GB's first medal of the Beijing Games. It is GB's 200th Olympic gold medal.
The women's road race rolls out from Tiananmen square in the centre of Beijing.
Britain's Emma Pooley grabs a drink as the peloton rolls along.
Frenchwoman Jennie Longo trys an attack. The 49 year old did a lot of work on the front of the bunch but the French had no firepower and didn't figure today.
Alexandra Burchenkova looked dangerous when she attacked and opened up a gap of over one minute the first time up the climb.
Weather conditions made for treacherous conditions as the roads were covered in water and several riders came down.
Emma Pooley played the perfect team mate roll, escaping the bunch and forcing the other teams to chase her, and giving Cooke the chance to sit in and wait.
Cooke drives the winning break on as the German team chase behind in what is the remainder of the peloton.
Cooke's had to wait four years for this and looks like she's making the most of it.
