KELLY UNVEILS SCULPTURE COMMEMORATING '98 TOUR VISIT TO ENNISCORTHY

The great Irish cyclist and former world number one Sean Kelly unveiled a fine sculpture of a bike rider in Enniscorthy recently, commemorating the historic visit to the town of the Tour de France in 1998.

Enniscorthy hosted the start of the 205-kilometre stage two to Cork, when yellow jersey Chris Boardman, winner of the Dublin prologue, crashed out with 55km to go!

The unveiling of the sculpture came the week before the launch of this year’s Tour of Ireland, which has a stage finish in Waterford. The city hosted an intermediate sprint on the Enniscorthy-Cork stage of the ‘98 Tour.
