DAWSON DOMINATES RUDY PROJECT SERIES

BRITISH Best All-Rounder Kevin Dawson took victory in the fourth round of the Rudy Project Time Trial Series at Ashley, Cambridgeshire, on Saturday.

Yorkshireman Dawson covered the 31-mile course in 1-13-04 to win by 36 seconds from Pezula Racing Team’s top espoir rider Richard Meadows, while Mark Holton (Pro Bike Kit) was third, another four seconds adrift.

“It went well, but everybody was suffering with the heat and I could’ve done with taking on a bit more water, but I just couldn’t drink any more. It was the survival of the fittest, but everyone was dehydrated by the end of it,” said Dawson.

With just 18 starters in the senior event, Dawson’s ride was one of the few highlights, with many riders opting to miss the Cambridgeshire event.

Five rides are needed from the eight events dotted throughout the season, and there is now a break for around three months before the competition continues on August 9.

Of the ten women who took part Michelle Brown (Wyre Forest CRC) won the two-lap 21-mile event in 53-24, winning by 2-26 and covering the course just over one mile per hour faster than second-placed Louise Day (Fat Birds CC).

Kevin Tye (ODLS.com) was best of the veterans on actual time with 48-34 to beat Ian Dalton (Cherry Valley RT) by 51 seconds, while John Woodburn (VC Meudon) was fastest on target time with a plus of 11-39.

Dean Fuller (Camel Valley CC) was best junior, while Simon Richardson (Lifeforce Cervelo) won the disability category.
