CYCLING FOR ALL CENTRE TO OPEN IN EAST HAMPSHIRE

A Cycling for All Centre, including for those with physical disabilities, is due to open in East Hampshire’s Alice Holt Forest on Bank Holiday Monday, May 5, as part the Get Active East Hampshire Partnership.

The launch of the project is nicely timed, and is sure to encourage newcomers to take part in National Bike Week the following month. Man behind the project is Clive Andrews, Cycle Champions Officer of the CTC, the national cyclists’ organisation. The project has the backing of Hampshire District Council and the Forestry Commission.

A fleet of bikes including tandems, tricycles and hand-powered cycles supplied by the Cycle Project in Manchester, plus conventional cycles will be available to try, under expert guidance. Having a disability or learning difficulties need not be a barrier to enjoying cycling, say the CTC.

Andrews says: “We’ve all been told that we should be getting more exercise, so we’re trying to make cycling more accessible for everyone. Our first centre will be at Alice Holt, which is a beautiful traffic-free place to enjoy cycling, but we’re also working on ideas all over the East Hampshire area.”

The Alice Holt Centre is at Bucks Horn Oak on the A325 between Alton and Farnham, and is accessible from Bentley Station on the London Waterloo line.
