The fate of the National Trophy Cyclo-Cross Series will be decided in the final round at Derby in January after Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles) stole the show in round four at Bradford on Sunday.

Cheshire-based Field was one of three riders who dominated the race, and after some minor troubles mid-way through the 20-kilometre event won by five seconds from Polish World Cup ace Mariusz Gil, while Rob Jebb (Wheelbase) took third, another 10 seconds off the pace.

The trio had tussled for the front throughout, and with thickening mud causing all manner of mechanical troubles regular bike changes were the order of the day.

Despite missing the opening round of the series Field has moved up to fourth overall, 30 points behind series leader David Collins (Science in Sport.com) who could only manage eighth at Bradford.

“It was a pretty good day - not too cold - and after all the rain beforehand it was drying out as the day went on,” said Field after his win. “I had to change my bike every lap and the team did a superb job getting it clean for the next time round.”
