THANKSGIVING SERVICE FOR BERNARD THOMPSON ON THURSDAY
The funeral of Bernard Thompson will take place on Thursday, November 29. There will be a
a private cremation followed by a thanksgiving service celebrating Thompson’s life, at 2.30pm, St Andrews Church, Lyddington, near Uppingham, Leicestershire.
Thompson, the well-known and popular photographer, died recently at the age of 83.
For over three decades his images and reports of major British events appeared, first in Sporting Cycling and then in Cycling, now Cycling Weekly.
One of his most popular tasks, he once said, was in preparing the big mounted photographs (3-feet by 2-feet) for the annual Road Time Trials Council Champions Night.
He amassed thousands of photographs and had recently published 300 of them in disc form.
During his life he was a member of three cycling clubs, beginning with Hayes Swifts CC when at school. He moved to the Middlesex RC after National Service, and at some point during the 1960s, to the Hounslow and District Wheelers, with his wife Ethel, who pre-deceased him.
