IBBO’S CAKE QUEST READY FOR KICK-OFF

Entries on the line will be welcomed for Ibbo’s Cake Quest starting in Walton on the Hill in Surrey, tomorrow (Sunday, October 14). The ride is in memory of former professional rider John Ibbotson who died two years ago, with money raised going towards the fund set up in his name.

Four rides, catering for all standards of cyclists, will start from Walton on the Hill near Box Hill tomorrow morning between 8–10am. Entry on the line costs £15.

Three routes have been devised by the Surrey League’s Keith Butler, with the longest ‘Fruit Cake’ ride taking in some of the toughest hills the North Downs has to offer over a 150km route. The shorter ‘Carrot Cake’ ride is still a tough test at 110km with the ‘Jaffa Cake’ ride at 60km.

The shortest ‘Fairy Cake’ ride is around 9km off road, and is aimed at families and non-cyclists. Each route has been designed to test the riders mettle by taking them past some of the best tea rooms in Surrey.

The ride is being organised by Ibbotson’s friends and family and will have a very relaxed feel to it. Riders can decide on the day which route they wish to follow, and anyone who fails to resist temptation and pops in to a team room will be given a pat on the back for doing exactly what John would have done.

All monies raised on the day will go to the John Ibbotson memorial fund that has been set up to help young, aspirational young riders from the south east of England in developing as cyclists.

Walton on the Hill (sign on is at the community centre in Breech Lane) is near Tadworth and Banstead, close to M25 junction 8 (A217). Click here for a map of the area.
