BMX TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT OLYMPIC SPONSOR LAUNCH

Last Thursday saw the confirmation of Adidas’s £100million apparel sponsorship of the London 2012 Olympic games with a variety of sporting events in unlikely urban locations. As well as Pole vaulting in Horse Guards Parade and sprinting on the Millennium Bridge, the undoubted star of the day was a specially constructed BMX track floating on the river Thames.

Created in only five days, the specially designed track was set up right next to the London Eye, easily visible from the riverside right in the heart of London’s prime tourist area. Six of the UK’s best BMX racers sported brand new Adidas Race Kit and spent the day racing the track for the assembled masses.

Olympic hopefuls (and probable medallists) Lawrence Mapp, Liam Philips, Lewis Lacey, Warren Bancroft, Luke Gamble and not forgetting triple BMX world champion and track star Shanaze Reade snapped out of the start gate, styled the double before banging hard round a berm and pumping the technical rhythm section to finish.
